Hörgren 7'4" 4 Weight Semi-Parabolic

The winter months in Sweden have been the perfect time for Christian Hörgren to finish up and photograph a few exciting fiberglass fly rod projects that he has been working on.  This build was done on a 7'4" four weight semi-parabolic blank that Christian and blank maker James Green have been talking together about for some time.

Christian wrote...  "This rod was completed the other day.  It's a box fresh fiberglass taper from James Green.  I asked James a few months back if he could help me develop a semi-parabolic taper.  We have been discussing this taper and its configuration over the phone for a while, and finally it's here.  I love every inch of it.

The rod is appointed with my own hardware in blued brass. Pac Bay bronze guides, Elephant silk in brown and orange.  Finished with two layers of TM Lite.

I will build up a few of these during the winter, with similar appointments, and put up for sale under the Fiberglass Flyrodders For Sale page."

It's really interesting to see Christian spread his wings a bit with this collaboration with James Green, as well as his developing his own 7'9" 4/5 weight progressive taper blank project.  Christian is certainly putting his architecture and design background to good use with these inspired builds as of late.

That rod looks sooooo cool. Why the gap in front if the reel seat? Does that do something for balance? What is that reel?

The void adds a flexing point in the grip section. But it's also a design feature, expressing the transition from the reel seat to the grip in a ventilated way.

And what about the reel? It was made by a friend of mine, the Swedish reelmaker Björn Emanuelsson. He has been developing this model for the last 30 years, and it's amazingly well built. Here are some pics from my last visit to Björn:

Christian...thanks for the insight and the link to the forum post on the reel maker. Beautiful work. How many of his reels do you have?

I have had a few, but today I only have this one and a similar in silver. The black one labeled Seatrout in the forum thread was made for our mutual friend and gear diva in Malaysia.

HA... I bet I know who that gear diva is. HA...
