Under The Blazing Sun

This past Friday I packed up the children to meet Mrs. Manifesto in central Florida where she had been at a conference for a few days.  Seven hours down and we spent the rest of the weekend with friends.    

The plan was for a friend and I to fish all day Saturday but after a long list of hiccups we finally were able to get to the lake mid day.  Though beautiful, this warmwater lake offered up one smallish bluegill before shutting down.  I had the opportunity to get a fair amount of fly casting in but no more tugs.  What more could we expect when fly fishing under the blazing sun.

This entire lake looked quite fishy and I was seriously wishing I had my kayak with me.

Sticks for the day were the 6'6" and 8' Eagle Claw Featherlight rods.  Hardly a better beat around boat fly rod than these.  Each rod was matched with a vintage Martin reel.

I've become a religious wearer of Buff's the past couple summers.  I'm hardly ever outside for any length of time without one around my neck.  I'm also hardly ever out of the house without a T.F.M. t-shirt on as well.  Got to represent.

Have I mentioned how much I like old school Martin reels?  This MG-8 is a little brute of a reel and could handle most anything in fresh water.

The lake was stunning no doubt but hard to get them to eat during the heat of the day.  Oh well...next time.
