3 Objectives - The Orvis Superfine Glass Blanks

A couple weeks ago Shawn Combs of Orvis sent a text message that four of the Superfine Glass 7'6" four weight blanks had left the Orvis Rod Shop and were on their way to my doorstep.  We went back and forth on what we wanted to do with these blanks and in the end came up with three objectives for the first set of glass blanks to leave the shop and what we wanted done with them.

1.  GIVE BACK
Orvis does a lot of good work with many organizations in giving back and this is the perfect opportunity to raffle or auction off a couple of top shelf builds for a worthy cause.  We are still working out the details but two of these blanks will be built up and go to Project Healing Waters in the coming months as part of a fund raising campaign.  We'll be releasing more details on this soon.

2.  THE CUSTOM ROD BUILDER'S TAKE
After over a year of seeing how the Orvis Rod Shop has been building the Superfine Glass fly rods uniformly the same one by one, it will certainly be interesting to see which direction a custom fly rod builder will take on the first builds on these blanks.

These blanks have been split up between Graywolf Rods and Snowman Custom Rod Works with one build each going to Project Healing Waters and then one build from each shop being built and sold to two fortunate clients.

If you have been jonesing for an Orvis Superfine Glass four weight but really wanted a small shop rod builder to do the work, consider contacting Shane or Zeb to put your name on one of these blanks.  I know that they both have build schemes already in the works and these fly rods should turn out excellent.

As far as pricing, I would expect that custom builds on these blanks will figure in between $600 and $750, depending on the components used.

3.  BLANKS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR ORDER
And finally, and this is big news, Orvis just sent word this morning that they are now offering Superfine Glass blanks which are priced at $198.00 each.

To order, please call 1-800-548-9548.  These blanks will be built to order and may take up to four weeks for delivery.
