Endless Summer

Even though we seem to be in an endless summer with hot humid days and not much reprieve at night, the family pond is changing.  The lily pads and underwater vegetation are dying.  The dark sweet tea colored water is getting colder.  The fish are in different places than they were a few weeks ago.  The bluegill are still under the dock looking for a handout but the bass don't seem to want to make a play for a topwater popper.  They are more interested in a big meal coming right by the structure they are hunkered down in.

Yesterday morning the children and I had a couple hours in the morning and a few more in the afternoon to get out in the kayaks and play.  Our Sunday's lately have been full of church youth meetings, home projects, lawn work, and Finn's soccer games.  It was certainly good to have some time to just relax and enjoy some quiet time on the water.

All these images were taken with my Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens.  I'm wondering more and more why I even bother with any of my other lenses since I feel like I get more interesting images with this than the others.

Our summer seems like it will continue for at least another week or so with days in the high 80's and nights in the low 70's.  Hopefully we'll get a few more kayak sessions in before the fall really sets in.
