I arrived home last night from our family trip to Orlando, Florida to find a large box from Cabela's leaned up against the door which held the entire Cabela's C.G.R. Series. I took a few minutes and went through the fly rod tubes to check out each one, put a couple together for the wiggle test, and overall I'm impressed already.
I'm still scratching my head at how Cabela's is pushing these out the door for $100 a piece (I know...they are made in China) and they certainly represent a great value in a fly rod...and fiberglass at that!
Give me a couple weeks and I'll have the review wrapped up and ready to post.

I'm looking forward to your review. I've been thinking about these since I got the catalog! I love the short lengths of glass rods. It'd be nice if these were available as a blank only.
I have been reading the reviews on these and there not looking all that great man... Im hearing that you cant hardly get a reel on there... you may be a more reputable source though... looking forward to the report...
Dave...I like short glass fly rods as well. They are more useful that people realize.
Bigerffish...where have you read negative reviews at? I haven't had a problem fitting the rods with reels so I'd be interested knowing what reels they are having issues with. I've tried both Hardy Lightweight and LOOP CLWC reels with no issue.
I had issues with a Martin reel on the 4/5. I had to sand a bit of the cork away to get a decent grip. I also had issues with the ferrules not fitting together, but I was told from a reputable source that they do that to account for wear and tear. That was something that I've never run across and was a big concern on my part initially.
But on the plus side, the thing cast beautifully. : )
Well that was easy, It came to you... Anthony, in the above comment is one of the guys who reviewed the rod.. click on his name or go here..

Granted The Martin is a little lower end reel but in my mind, a 100 dollar rod shouln't require a 300 dollar reel.
Then again if you figure the price of the rod at 100 and peice of sandpaper at 33 cents, over look the joints not going together, and donate the time it takes to modify a brandnew rod, Then your in it for $100.33 and you have a decent deal really.
I was turned off by the words "elbow grease" now "sandpaper" yikes!
Anthony...thanks for the link to your blog with your review. In my experience it's typical for slide band reel seats, whether they are Cabela's or Scott's, to be finicky with what reel they like. Once you've determined what reel you are definitely wanting to fish on the rod a bit of sanding usually takes care of the situation or find a reel that works best with slide bands. The space between the ferrules is what is intended from the makers that use a spigot ferrule design as you found out and updated in your post.
Bigerrfish...you're right. A $100 fly rod doesn't need anything but a economy fly reel and a basic fly line. It would be neat to see people get out the door with a complete outfit for $200 or less!
Your welcome Cameron. I figured that the manufacturer would err on the side of caution for the snuggness of the seat considering that the material was cork, but that reassurance wasn't helping me when I was standing stream-side trying to figure out if my reel was going to fall of or not.
I look forward to seeing your reviews; hope you don't have any of the issues I had!
I've had problems with the cork reel seats on the lighter Scott G2's...so it's the problem is not inherent to any one rod company. Looking forward to the review Cameron.
I can't wait to see what you think of these rods, I got a 7/8 today and Im gonna do a review for fun on it... I sure hope cabellas doesn't hurt glass, instead of helping it-
