For those that have been reading T.F.M. for a number of years know that I have struck out a few times with redfish. The truth is that I needed more time to work at it. I needed to fix my "trout set" issue. I needed practice dropping flies near tails or swirls in the water's surface. Lastly...and most importantly I needed to be at the right place at the right tide.
Yesterday morning was spent on a flats boat with Scott Davis of Lowcountry Fly Shop and all the pieces came together when a brute redfish that sucked in a Puglisi minnow in less than twelve inches of water, felt the hook, and then raced off the flat. Finally success.
I am wading through a couple hundred photos from yesterday's trip and will get a full post and slide show up in the next couple days.

Got my first Redfish this past september. A freeking blast!! Congrats
Way to go Cameron... That is a beautiful fish, congrats!
Looks like a heck of a fish for a first. I still need to try my hand at Redfish... it's on my bucket list.
Congrats on your first Redfish, Cameron! Still better than any I have caught down here in the Gulf.
Cameron,
Hey it's Cameron at DesertAnglers.com. What did you do to that picture? It looks amazing! Congrats on the redfish! I'm headed to northern Cali for steelies this weekend. Look for a post next week sometime
e.m.b...thanks. In all honesty I much enjoyed the process. I didn't expect these redfish to be a cinch.
AYOTF...congrats to you too.
Vlad...this Steffen build is perfection to me. Thanks again.
Jay...yeah...it wasn't a puppy drum. I was surprised by it's size too.
Parker...thanks. Really? Don't you grow them bigger over there?
Cameron...I ran it through the HDR filter in Camera+ app and then the Helga filter in the CameraBag app. Made it a bit more dramatic. Good luck in Cali.
Nicely done, and a beautiful red to get things rolling.
great report!!! glad you got to test out that Steffen!!!
Nice first Red, I remember my first quite vividly. Fought a lot harder than I exspected.
That "Trout Set" is the curse to saltwater guides. I missed many because of it and caught Heck from the guides.
schnitzerPHOTO...you're right. That was no puppy drum. I was pretty stoked that the fish was so excellent.
Randall...the Steffen 8/9 weight is the real deal. I like it a lot.
RFMcD...the "trout set" is a curse. I'm still working on keeping mine from getting in the way.
