A few days ago I sent Tom Hazelton, who is Scientific Anglers go to person and writer of Voyageur Pursuits, and asked he if had one of the sharp S.A. caps around that I had seen everywhere online. Yesterday I arrived home to find a package on the front porch with not one but several orange Scientific Anglers trucker style caps inside and wanted to share the wealth with an easy giveaway.

I haven't really been able to "test out different lines" and find out which one I like best because I am only a beginner. But I think the Mastery series which I have for Trout on my 3weight is something special. It casts like a charm which I didn't suspect would happen especially since I've only been fly fishing for a year or so. The line bends my 7 1/2ft TFO rod perfectly, smooth in roll casts and longer distance casts. Scientific Anglers has done it again.
I think my first fly line was from SA~ hard to recall that far back. With innovations like Sharkskin and the Mastery Series, it is hard to wrong with SA.

I'm gonna have to go with my heart. A Head Start line on my old fiberglass Shakespeare 1968 model. I learned to fly fish with that rod. The line that was on there in the beginning was some sink line of unknown provenance. Once I put the Head Start line on I started to feel like maybe I could get away with casting and catching some fish.
SA has many fine products. But when I hear Scientific Anglers" I envision that line on that rod.
gotta be the mastery series..
I have a bunch of different SA lines, so picking a favorite isn't easy. However, lately I've been fishing their new Titan Taper 6 wt and it's a cannon. Would be interested to get a Steffen 8 wt. built up and load it up with some Titan Taper for redfish.
I'd go with the mastery series steelhead line. Incredibly easy to mend line, just like it's designed to.
Love the streamer express lines for getting big streamers down.
Hard to pick just one. Any of the Mastery series are a good call. BUt since I'm spending the week with the redfish line, I'll call it that.
I love my sharkskin on my 8wt.!
Ahhh the memories...I think it was a mastery, but the first tapered sinking line I had fished. I just remember how much easier it was to cast, rather than a level sinking line.
I started my boys out on SA lines because of ease of casting and that was nearly 5 years ago. Now they are in their early teens and good casters. I don't remember the exact type of line they started with but it served them very well, now they have a love of the sport.
That's easy. When I first learned to fly fish, my initial setup included a TFO Professional 9'5wt rod, Ross Rhythm reel and Scientific Anglers Mastery GPX line. First trip was to Northern New Mexico, first fish ever caught on a fly line was a little 'bow, only about 10", but I'll never forget the feeling of that fish on the line. Came home from NM, promptly gave away my spin casting outfit, and have never looked back. That Scientific Anglers line was part of what has become a passion that now includes tying my own flies and building my own rods. Everything I've owned since has been loaded with Scientific Anglers line, and it all started with that Mastery GPX!
I just bought the textured for my 5wt and love it! Then I won a free line from them at the fly fishing film tour, so I got the GPX textured for my 8wt! I hope to try that line on the fenwick feralite of my wifes grandfather!
The Mastery Trout just rocks!!!
I'm just under a year into my experience with fly fishing and the Air Cel Trout 6-7 wt. has been tried and true for me. Caught my first brook trout, brown trout, and steelhead on that bad boy and it's still going strong. Well, I may have mangled it enough that it's time for a new line but for all intents and purposes that line has been great. Would love a hat. Thanks TFM.
personally it's NOT all about sharkskin when it comes to SA lines. I find it too loud and it doesn't stay clean as well as other lines. These are two aspects that are key (especially cleanliness) when they get used by myself and clients 150+ days through the summer months. The fly line for me and my clients has been the SA Mastery Saltwater Striped Bass fast sinking. It has enough weight to toss some log flies and gets down to the big boys. Ta ta.

Purchased some Mastery Textured Saltwater line for bonefishing last fall, it was dreamy. I cant wait to test it out on the glass rod this summer while I am chasin tails.
I'm with Mike, SA Mastery Redfish, but I'm employing it to chase carps.
Slingin it with a Ross Flystik (awesome rod) and a Ross Reel, so the hat would just coplete my outfit for 'walking SA advertisement.'
Mastery trout. Period.
I like the Mastery, but is it ain't Peach, it ain't fly line..... Been using this stuff for 30 years, and I have found it hard to improve on.
From the moment I first strung up my SA Mastery Series Trout line, I haven't switched back. Love it, has by-far been the most comfortable line and makes for amazing casts.

Honestly, I haven't used an SA line yet. Have two other brands now. Needing another reel soon for my E C featherweight i recently purchased. Ill try SA line on that one. Great Blog. Its my daily read.
Well, I would definitely have to say the Redfish line. All the way. I have used, almost exclusively, Scientific Angler lines on my outfits. There's just something about the redfish one that I really dig.
The textured GPX line is absolutely money! Shoots like the Sharkskin, but leaves skin on your stripping fingers...
I have their Steelhead taper and it works as advertised. It turns over an indie rig quite well, and I use it for throwing mice at night.
