Daytripping In California

There are times when life serves up unexpected happenings and last week started on a sad note that my grandmother had passed away.  There was somewhat of a mad scramble to find two plane tickets and car rental on short notice and plans were made for my wife and I to go out to California for the weekend to attend the funeral and spend time with family.

Created with flickr slideshow.

Besides last minute plane tickets being outrageously expensive, we were also at the mercy of Delta's schedule for getting us there and back, which meant a day or so on either side of the funeral that we had to explore and day trip.  We went light with just carry on luggage (this was a first for us and it felt good to stick it to the airline with zero baggage fees) and were off early Thursday morning to San Francisco.

Not much reason for a lot of narrative on the weekend except to say that we made the most of our time in California.  Our five days there was pretty much a whirlwind of road miles, time with family, and taking in new places together.  This was the longest trip that my wife and I have taken together since our first child was born seven years ago and we had a great time together.  We celebrated the life of my grandmother and were able to see and taste a lot of California as well.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I was trying to figure out the trip photos on instagram and didn't recall you preparing for a Cali trip, so now it all makes sense. Looks like you had a great trip. Your photos are terrific. I love California, especially that area.
