On the last angling day in Montana, we woke to Joel Thompson of Montana Troutaholic Outfitters saying over morning coffee that instead of floating one of the nearby rivers (which would mean trailering both the raft and the drift boat behind his truck) that maybe we should instead walk into a section of Flint Creek that he had access to. It had been fishing good over the past several weeks, and even thought none of the three of us had a very good experience there a couple years ago, we figured that it was worth a try for a bit of redemption.
Well...even though conditions were about perfect (finally a cool and cloudy day without much wind) redemption did not visit us that day. Joel unlocked the secret which was drifting a small brown and yellow streamer slowly through the bends and tangled with a dozen or so browns but the rest of us had a similar experience as our last visit. I bumped a couple browns on streamers but thinking back I was fishing them to aggressively since these fish like it more on the slow swing than on the jerk. David caught a couple and Mike had about the same success that I did.
Oh well. I haven't given up on Flint Creek...and hope that on our next visit we'll be able to flip the switch and figure this special piece of water out.
