T.F.M. Spotting - Four Weight Carp

Over the past summer Ben Hohnke of Hohnke Hooks spent some time in the shop building up a his first glass fly rod on a CTS Quartz four weight blank and sent a few photos and a video from the first trips out for Australian skinny water carp for the T.F.M. Spotting Photo Contest.

Ben wrote...  "I have always been a person that loves to make things with my hands.  From a young age I always spent time in the shed making anything and everything.  I'm currently halfway through and apprenticeship in metal fabrication.

Of course when you are somewhat of a craftsman by nature and a flyfisher man at soul the two worlds collide and you start to make things.  It starts with flies in my case, then I made a fly reel, and finally a fly rod.  I have fly rods so if I were to make one it had to be special.  That's when I discovered T.F.M. and my rod building journey began.

I purpose built this fly rod using a four weight 7'6" CTS quartz blank for ultra gentle presentations on the skinny water close to home where the carp are ultra spooky."

Check out the video. That's a lot of carp for a four weight.

Check out the Hohnke Hooks website for more fly fishing adventures and original flies from Ben's vise as well.
