A rumor that Orvis may be bringing back fiberglass to their fly rod offerings began circulating a few weeks ago on the Fiberglass Flyrodders forum and late last week this photo of a Lahontan Cutthroat arrived in my email inbox as proof that a few prototypes are showing up in places outside of Vermont.
It's good to see yet another prediction may be quickly coming true. I have a few of my own hopes and ideas about this possible fiberglass offering from Orvis that I'll share in a follow up post soon. In the meantime the forum thread is interesting and worth a read.

GASP! I desire it. I haven't even seen it yet, and I desire it. If its anything like their prior glass rods, or even their first generation graphite sticks, this will be freaking sweet.
As an Orvis retail employee, I wrote an impassioned memo to the product development group a few months ago, imploring them to bring back a series of glass rods. I didn't hear a peep in terms of a reply, no "we'll take it under advisement" only one, "I'll be out of the office..." automated response. I guess they couldn't trust me with any "state secrets". It's nice to know that they might be doing the right (and smart) thing. What is once old is new again...tradition lives.
Great news, My Golden Eagles need a younger brother. Orvis is a class act for the most part and I'm looking forward to the new glass. Something to hang my old Madison reel on would be nice.

The Sasquatch...hopefully it will be "freaking sweet". I am looking forward to the final project.
Timothy...thanks for sending along that note. From the little bit that I know I believe the ball was already rolling by then on this glass project.
RFMcD...agreed on all point.
