I guess it's been up for some time now, but I just came across the article that I wrote for the 2014 Gear Guide yesterday and stoked that it can be read in it's entirety on the Fly Fisherman website.
The online article includes photographs and links to several video reviews as well that are worth watching.

Great article! I started with fiberglass too some 35 years ago! I just might have to give it another try.

Paul...thanks for the comment and reading the article. If you haven't fished glass lately then you really should give it a try.
Well done!
Probably a big boost for fiberglass as an alternative for graphite rod. Mainstream fishermen tend to stay with the big names (large & small). Especially Orvis releasing their glass rods will result in more people giving fiberglass a chance. Some will not like them still while some will venture into new offerings in the custom build fiberglass rods.
Cameron, just went over and read your article in Fly Fisherman. Beautiful job of laying out the Glass scene. The history is important to know and I am excited about glass rods becoming popular again. I used an old Fenwick Glass for years when I first started fly fishing. Picked up a Featherlight from you last yea and enjoy it very much. Being on a Social Security income is limiting on how much I can spend on a new glass rod, so it is inspiring to see Echo, Redington, and others looking at the economical side of new glass generation.
Well written Cameron. I've begun the graphite purge, only a few left.
Jay...I completely agree. There isn't a custom builder that I've talked to that is worried about the larger rod companies getting into glass. Factory builds typically lead to custom fly rod orders in time.
Mel...it's tough to beat Fenwicks and Featherlights.
DJ...the "purge". I totally remember going through the same thing several years ago.
Well done, Cameron! Main stream, baby!!
Chris...mainstream might be overstating it...but more and more are figuring out that there is something to enjoy with fiberglass fly rods for sure.
