2014 Michi-Glass International Gathering

For the past several summers a growing group have been getting together for the annual Michi-Glass event in northern Michigan and the upcoming event in June looks to be an excellent time for all attending.  Mark McKellip of McKellip Brothers Bamboo Rods is again organizing this event and expanding it with presentations and the introduction of the Tycoon Tackle Casting Competition.

The Michi-Glass International Gathering will be held June 21st and 22nd at Warbler's Hideaway in Grayling, Michigan.  Attendees will include rod builders and glass aficionados and there will be scores of glass fly rods to cast and demo through the weekend.

The schedule of events for the weekend include...

9:00 a.m. - Registration

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m. - Fly rod casting and fellowship.

12:00 - Lunch of cold cut sandwiches provided for attendees.

1:00 p.m. - A presentation by Vic Johnson, author of the book "Fiberglass Fly Rods" which is called "Fiberglass Rods, How They Changed The Fishing World, and Who Did It?".

One of the main points of this talk will cover how an American invention went worldwide in such a short time, and as well, who were some of the main people responsible for what we enjoy today.

2:00 p.m. - A presentation given by Mike McFarland of the McFarland Rod Company, and newly formed Seele Rod Company, called "Making Fiberglass Blanks".

Mike will explain what is involved when rolling blanks, the differences in types of glass cloth and their properties, and have on hand some of the items instrumental in manufacturing fiberglass rods.

3:00 p.m. - Rod Builders Panel Presentation
This group presentation will consist of rod builders Chris Barclay, Shane Gray, Mike McFarland, Mark McKellip, Tim O'Brien and Fred Paddock with a Q&A session at the end.

4:00 p.m. - Fly rod casting and enjoying time with the group.

5:00 p.m. - End of the first day.  Time to enjoy the evening on the water.  HEX!
