Introducing 406 Fly Lines

Looking back at past emails that I traded with Tom Brodhead of 406 Fly Lines, his idea of creating a series of fly lines made specifically for fiberglass fly rods is more than a year in the making.  Tom has worked hard to design and test different fly line tapers from the past and interpreting them for the now with modern fly line advancements for glass both vintage and contemporary.

A few weeks back Tom sent me demos of the Vintage Series 5WF and 5DT and I've spent quite a bit of time casting the different five weight fiberglass fly rods that I have around to see how they like these fly lines.

What's the early verdict?  I am impressed.  These fly lines cast beautifully and they do like glass fly rods, especially the weight forward fly line.  Honestly, the 5DT may be more of an acquired taste but there are some fly rods, like the C. Barclay Fly Rod Co. 75p that completely ate it up.

The 406 Fly Lines are not for sale yet, but will soon be in the coming weeks.  The retail price for these fly lines will be $69.00 and will be available online as well as through select fly shops and rod builders.
