CICADAPOCALYPSE 2017

I don't know about you but my social media feed for the past couple weeks has been a growing cycle of carp crunching dry fly cicada patterns videos and photographs.  I want to get in on the action.

Nice work by Drift Media Productions for capturing the carp on cicada madness with Blane Chocklett with this shortie film.

BUG WILD - Deer Hair Cicada

CALL TO ACTION: Save Bristol Bay & Watch "The Breach"

If you've followed along for the past number of years with the "No Pebble Mine" campaign with letter writing, emails, meetings, interviews, films, and whatever else would get the word spread to help save and bring attention to Bristol Bay, Alaska then you've ridden the same roller coaster as the rest of us.

This ride is still far from over and a recent settlement between the EPA and Pebble Limited Partnership appears to have reopened a door that many thought was closed.

Filmmaker Mark Titus is rallying fly fishing websites around the internet to work together on a concentrated push to bring awareness and a call to action to save Bristol Bay.  Take a moment to watch this short piece and over the weekend watch the final screener for "The Breach" which is unlocked for the next five days.

News release from Mark Titus...

"Friday, May 12th, news broke that the Trump administration paved the way for the Pebble Limited Partnership to restart its quest to dig North America’s largest open pit copper mine - directly in the headwaters of Bristol Bay’s vast wild salmon runs.

The EPA and Pebble's settlement agreement was a backroom deal brokered between
EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and Pebble.  The EPA's own peer-reviewed science
was not taken into consideration, nor the requests from Bristol Bay’s
Native Communities, fishermen, and hunters and anglers to uphold the EPA’s
Proposed Determination.

Bristol Bay provides 14,000 American jobs and 1.5 billion dollars to the American economy with the 30 - 60 million wild sockeye salmon that return there each summer.

Please take action and call EPA Administrator, Scott Pruitt to tell him compromising an irreplaceable ecosystem, a fully sustainable food supply and some of the greatest sport fishing on earth is unacceptable.

The Office of EPA Administrator, Scott Pruitt:  202-564-4700."

Take the time to call, share these posts with your friends, and watch "The Breach" this weekend for free.

TIGHT LOOPS - Journey On

What started as an idea turned to a Kickstarter project that turned into a film which recently went from On Demand to free for all to enjoy.  Dive into this vagabond adventure film over the weekend from Tight Loops.

From Tight Loops...  "In the summer of 2015, filmmakers Aimee Savard and Chase Bartee packed up their belongings, moved into their 1985 Volkswagen Westfalia, and left their home in Massachusetts. The goal? To make their way to Montana, and spend as much time as humanly possible exploring, fly fishing, and documenting their travels. Living in an eighty square foot van would pose its challenges. But the lessons learned and experiences gained over the next three and a half months would set events into motion that would change their lives forever."

ED ANDERSON ART - Lousiana Marsh Journal

Artist Ed Anderson recently shared his latest Journal entry in an email along with an image of a original dubbed "Marsh Red" that was auctioned off last month at the Texas Coastal Conservation Association Chapter banquet which is now available as a print

This journal story came from his recent trip to the Louisiana marsh chasing redfish with Captain Greg Moon and shooting ducks with Taylor Nunez.  All the while staying on  converted Coast Guard buoy cutter called the Dogwood which certainly sounds like a great way to spend a few days.

Ed's Journals are a neat insight to his travels and are worth a few minutes to check out those posted on his website.  For those unfamiliar with his work, his big bright gestural paintings are derived from his journals.

Please visit the Ed Anderson Art website to see more of his work.  Follow along on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube for the latest updates and more.

ASTOVE

Anything that has to do with the Seychelles is so hot right now and this film certainly feeds the stoke.

Alphonse Fishing Company has got a stellar operation going there and it's certainly on my list of places to make it to at some point.  It'll take a big piggy bank to break to get there though.

SMITHFLY - Big Flats Poling Board

A few months ago I was talking with Ethan Smith of SmithFly and he mentioned that he was working on a new paddle board project that would likely be an entirely new category to the paddle board fly fishing market.  Enter the Big Flats Poling Board in all it's plus sized glory...

Weighing in at 100 pounds at 18' long and 5' wide, I see a lot of potential in this board as both a family fun vessel and a serious flats skiff that can be packed down and fit in a trunk.

The Big Flats Poling Board is available in four different packages with pre-orders are being taken now through May 15th, 2017.

Visit the SmithFly website for more information and a whole lot more images.

Hola & Adios From The Palometa Club

One of the fellows on the recent trip to the Palometa Club said it best in a text message to the group that "Re-entry is tough, Boys".  Six days on the pointy end of a panga on Ascension Bay went by way too fast and even though I've still yet to touch a permit, the trip was so well worth it.

The Palometa Club is dialed in on so many levels and Punta Allen, along with the people that call this end of a long bumpy road town their home, make this a very special place that I already can't wait to return to.

It's been a long time since The Fiberglass Manifesto went into hibernation mode for this many days in a row but the internet at the lodge was spotty at best and since returning, my hands have been full playing catch up at home and work.  It's time to dive back into it.

I've got a few hundred photos to weed through, words to put together, and looking forward to telling the story of this most excellent trip.  Here we go...
