FIRST LOOK - Thomas & Thomas Lotic Series Fly Rods

Several new fiberglass fly rods were shown off last week at the International Fly Tackle Dealer show and one series with most anticipation has been the Lotic fly rod from Thomas & Thomas.

The Lotic series will consist of three models with a 6'10" three weight, 7'4" four weight, and a 7'10" five weight.  These three piece fly rods will be built with western style cork grips, aluminum hardware, with cork reel seat insert.  Something interesting to consider is that the Lotic series are 40% lighter over the Heirloom series fly rods that they are replacing.  MSRP will be $595 and these fly rods should be available through your local Thomas & Thomas dealer soon.

Thomas & Thomas wrote...

"Inspired by tumbling mountain brooks and glassy spring creeks, Thomas & Thomas introduces the Lotic Series of fiberglass fly rods.  By combining the latest glass fibers with a highly progressive flex profile, the light-weight Lotic provides a crisp, medium action with the deep loading distinct to fiberglass.  The result is a high-performance glass rod that generates surprising line speed and power while maintaining a silky-smooth delivery perfect for presenting a dry fly."

Last summer I had the opportunity to take a prototype of the 7'10" five weight on the trip to Wyoming but have been told that the taper was further refined along with entirely different cosmetics.  I'll be looking forward to getting my hands on the final version.

Visit the Thomas & Thomas website for more information and plan on stopping by your nearby dealer to cast the Lotic fly rods as they should be in stock soon.
