LEIDERMAN RODS - Thomas & Thomas Lotic Build

There are just a few of the new Thomas & Thomas Lotic fiberglass fly rods out in the wild and yet custom fly rod builder Matt Leiderman of Leiderman Rods is already putting his take on this blank out there for everyone to see.

I'm more than just kind of gaga for this build and the Lotic prototype and final versions that I've been able to put hands are nothing short of impressive.  T&T has a stable of winners here.

Matt wrote... "I had the pleasure of building out one of the first Lotic blanks to hit the market.  I have to say I'm very impressed with that T&T put together.  The color and unsanded finish are spot-on and the action is very nice.  I only cast it for a few minutes but came away with an impression of it being a very lightweight blank (2.5oz finished) with a crisp progressive action.  Initially I was pushing the rod a bit more than it needed and it was definitely able to throw a tight loop and get some line out.  I settled into a slower, smoother casting stroke and it all but cast itself.  I'm really hoping to try out the others in the lineup.

The build has a spalted maple seat with a little different seat design.  A blend of ideas from my client and myself in making something a bit different.  The wraps are blue silk with a silver/gray silk tipping.  Not metallic but offers a nice contrast.  Overall it was a fun project and I was excited to get a hold of one of these blanks early in their production run."
