A day or so leading up to the last day of December, my wife prints off the set of twenty something "New Year's Eve Questions" that we go over together on New Year's Day. It's become a tradition for us even if I sometimes begrudgingly play along. It's not that I don't enjoy looking back over the year but it's a hard hit that for too questions my answer or resolution hadn't changed with the desired outcome from the year before. It's got me thinking that for as many ways my life seems to be moving forward, there are still quite a few things that I'm standing still in, or worse, going backwards.
So, here's to a New Year but with it a clearer focus. No worries, I'm not going to rattle off a list of hopeful resolutions but I do plan on being more purposeful going forward. I need to ask myself more if what I am doing (or not) is moving me closer to a goal? Am I staying on track? Am I putting something off that needs to be done now? Am I growing in the ways that I wanted or needed to?
Don't tell my wife, because she'd gleefully be all over this, but maybe these questions need to be something that I look over each month as a self check to ensure that I'm on track instead of evaluating just once once a year.
Okay, that's enough of that though part of my today will involve putting to paper a few things that I'd like do for family, work, and in my angling life.
So, here's to new adventures. I am excited for the new year as there are quite a few trips and different goings on in the works for 2018. Of course there are likely a few surprises along the way too. Maybe a permit will actually eat a fly for me this year? If not, I'm having a great time in trying.
First up? Louisiana in a couple weeks with Indigo Guide Service and a few good friends for redfish in marsh. Is it too early to start packing?

Happy New Year, Cam - and I'd have my redfish gear laid out already.
