Last night while poking around the internet I came across lo-fli Unreel Fly Fishing and their Kickstarter campaign that is winding down soon. I tend to like the unusual and of course the fly rod being made of fiberglass grabbed my attention as well.

Interesting take on the "reel is just a line holder" for lightweight rods. (I have often thought about what a variable-line-length tenkara setup would look like.) That being said, I have no idea why they decided to make it handed, and why they decided to make a dedicated rod for it. Handedness just creates inventory issues, and who wants a rod that can only be used with this "un-reel"? They could have made a reversible one with a standard reel foot. Then again, what problem are they really trying to solve? Carrying a reel is hardly the biggest hassle to going fishing. And with decent chinese reels on amazon for $30-40 the cost of the reel isn't what's keeping anyone from fishing, either.
the reel is super cool. too bad it doesn't fit in a standard reel seat.
Rockfish and Flytimes... I could see some interest if they could market something that other builders could add to their builds or could work with a standard reel seat.
