I think most kids go through a LEGO phase and my office has several of the police themed sets that Hadley and Finn gifted me over the years. We had a good time on several Christmas afternoons working through the page by page instructions until whatever project was compete.
Jay Lee of Fly Fishing and More and his son, Thomas, have an ongoing connection through LEGO and when he posted up images of his scene from A River Runs Through It, I asked if I could share their story here. What he sent was even more heartwarming than I expected. Enjoy...
Jay wrote... "My ten-year-old son Thomas loved building and playing with Duplo and later Lego since he could walk. He started creating his own creations after building up the original set. Lego also became a hit as a TV show the last few years, where candidates were challenged to build against each other. To get interaction with the viewers, each show ends with a home challenge.
Last show's challenge is building a scene from a movie. More than one build is allowed. Thomas' first build was a scene where the Black Pearl gets attacked by Kraken, the monster octopus. Me being a fly fishing nut also like the idea of creating a picture from the movie, A River Runs Through It with actor Brad Pitt making his famous shadow cast standing on a big rock. Adding the movie theme music gave this build a nice touch. Yes, Thomas started to get some interest in fly tying too!"
Thomas couldn't have a better teacher than his dad when it comes to fly tying. I look forward to seeing more of his fly tying creations in the future.
