Ron McAlpin (bulldog1935) posted this comment a few weeks ago on the Fiberglass Flyrodders website and his words spoke the truth to me.
"I went to vintage tackle because I was bored-to-tears and jaded catching fish-after-fish on graphite rods and disc drags."
"I would still rather be horsed around for awhile by massive fish on my vintage tackle and have them escape, than to land them on a disc drag and yawn about the whole thing.
I much prefer the challenge - and the adrenaline - when my tackle is outclassed by my quarry and it's the quality of my skills and not the technology of my gear that generates the success."

Truthfully, for me it was getting back to basics without spending $1500 for another cane rod. I love fishing with cane, and I'm sure if I wanted too it wouldn't be hard to have a quiver of cane rods. That being said, glass may not fish or cast exactly like bamboo, and I wouldn't want it that way, it's the slow action, the timing- (and I actually had to re-learn to cast again)the FEEL of a fly rod when casting and when landing a fish. I know people say you can't beat graphite, but hell, so what. Fiberglass isn't for everyone. I'm not out to impress anyone with my distance casting or my $700 Winston price tag. Just enjoying fly fishing my way.
Glad you brought it up Cameron
mojo...glad you are on the blog. I agree with your comments as well. You can spend some money on great fiberglass...but there is also a lot of decent rods to be had on a budget as well.
Whatever Ron says is ture! Good stoty!
