Conserve The Tongass National Forest

Recently I was tipped off on a new campaign that went live which centers it's information on the conservation of the Tongass National Forest in southeast Alaska.  The Tongass is a fertile spawning grounds for five species of salmon and also supports populations of rainbow trout, cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden as well.

No matter if you fish, eat fish, or are concerned about wild places where are food comes from this quote from the website is especially interesting.

"The wild salmon spawned and reared in the Tongass National Forest represent approximately 70 percent of all wild salmon harvested from our national forests, roughly 24 percent of Alaska’s overall salmon catch, about 30 percent of the salmon caught on the West Coast of the United States and close to 13 percent of the salmon harvested on the Pacific Rim."

Other bloggers and websites have signed on to spread the word about the Tongass National Forest.  Check out these links for more information.  I'll update this listing as more posts surface this week.
