Cricket Eaters

Yesterday between rain storms the children and I met a friend and his children on their small family pond for a couple hours.  This is one of those ponds that truthfully has to many fish.  The bluegills are everywhere in the shallows and taking a few home for a fish fry is just what this pond needs.

There was a fish or at least a bump on every cast and the dads spent the majority of the time keeping crickets on the hooks.  Managing two spin/fly's, crickets, and taking fish off the hook made quick work of our afternoon session.

A mess of bluegills came home with us for family dinner tonight with planned sides of grits souffle, tomato pie, and butter beans.  It will no doubt be a feast.
