If there is one fly rod that really blew we away this year it's without a doubt been the Swift Fly Fishing Bandit 7'10" ten weight. I am always drawn to new glass like a damn moth to a flame but what has really surprised me is how capable and useful this short ten weight is. The Bandit quickly become my go to fly rod for any heavy line weight work from carp (HERE and HERE) to shark (HERE). Okay...the shark was really pushing it but it ended up handling it fine in the end.
Danny Reed of Crooked Creek Holler and Shane Gray of Graywolf Rods have been working together on an Epic Bandit build that really is a looker. I can't wait for Danny to put something big on this beauty. That stacked bamboo reel seat with titanium hardware is beyond cool.
Shane wrote... "This whole thing started with the text you sent me that Danny wanted an Epic 686 build. I worked with him on that build, and shortly after he wanted a Bandit ( I assume he tried the one you have).

Danny and I started texting about the Bandit build and he wanted a
stacked bamboo reel seat but also wanted a rod he could use in salt on occasion. Well we got lucky when an all titanium seat had a burr in the barrel, so I cut the body out and replaced it with stacked bamboo. I finished out
the build with titanium stripping guides, clear silk wraps and just a
little single turn gold at the cork check and ferrules.
I
really hope he loves this rod since being an artist he knows what he wants! I
also think it's fitting him doing some artwork for Swift Fly Fishing (more on this soon...) as well.
Danny
was a pleasure to work with and I really hope to build more for him. Thanks for all the work you do for all us small business rod builders. Without you, I would have to get a real job. HA!"
