Morning On The Redfish Flat

On of the benefits of living in the middle of South Carolina is that I can be in the mountains or the coast within a couple hours drive.

Yesterday morning I met with Ken of The Redfish Chronicles and his friends Austin and Drew on one of the few hard flats outside of Charleston.

Minutes after dragging the kayaks into the marsh flat we started spotting tails working in the thick grass.  I was able to cast to a couple different redfish, spooking one and never interesting a couple others, before the flat filled up with water to our waists.

We spent the next couple hours in and out of the kayaks waiting for the water to wash off the flat.  In the meantime the fellows cast out bait on their spinning rods in the deeper water.  Drew ended up catching two large redfish with one pushing 27 inches and the other taping out at 24 inches.

It was great to get the kayak wet again since it's been a month or so since I've had a chance to take it out.    It was neat to see those brutes tails up in the grass and I'm already penciling in my next trip down.
