I've brought up the work of Hank Hershey of Hank's Fish Art before on T.F.M. and he's finally finished with a research and illustration project that highlights the nineteen forms of the genus Micropterus, better known as the Black Bass family.
Pursuing each of these bass in their native waters would be a slam that I could really get into. Who's up a fly fishing road trip to all the places where these bass live?
Hank wrote... "It's here! The culmination of months of research and illustration. The finished poster depicts morphologically accurate caricatures of all 19 forms of the genus Micropterus. I recruited the help of lots of people to nail the look of each species, including fisheries researchers, taxonomists, and anglers from across the country (and Mexico).
The poster features a blurb by Dr. Andrew Taylor, one of the leading experts on black bass. The blurb says, "As taxonomists continue to elucidate the cryptic diversity and interrelationships of the black basses, anglers have come to embrace the pursuit of native species within their native habitats. Unfortunately, habitat alteration, introductions of non-native species, and climate change threaten black bass diversity. Anglers and scientists alike are beginning to rally for the appreciation and conservation of these regionally unique and ecologically important sport fishes.” – Andrew Taylor PhD"
He is offering his illustration work as a high quality 15 inch by 30
inch satin finish poster and is taking pre-orders now with delivery at
the end of the month hopefully. Each poster is $45 and they will be
signed and numbered. Or order, please contact Hank by email or a direct message on Instagram.
