ZEN FLY ART - "Big Musky Painting with Pretentious, Aging Hipster"

The best part of social media is that it's given me the ability to stay connected with so many friends, meet new ones, reach out to rod makers, gear makers, artisans of all sorts, etc.  The worst part of social media is that they all have inboxes and it's easy to for messages to get lost in the mix.

A couple of months ago, artist John Alexander Piacquadio of Zen Fly Art and I traded messages on a huge musky fly painting that he did and he shared the story and background for this somewhat later than I first intended T.F.M. post.  Fortunately, art is timeless and it's still worth the share.

John wrote...  "
Phil Dobesh caught his first musky on the fly.  It’s kind of a big deal to put in the work to make that happen and finally have the spiritual experience of having it all come together.

How does one mark the achievement?  One does this…remove fly, give fly to John P., have John P. commemorate the experience with a painting of said fly, frame fly and fly painting together, put painting in prominent place as visual aide in re-telling your experience to the (maybe begrudging) story listener.

Matt’s Dirty Dancer is tied by Wisconsin fly tyer Matt Gotfredsen.  Mr. Dobesh is the Activities Manager and fly fishing guide at The Ranch at Rock Creek in Philipsburg, Montana."
