Buying a new fiberglass fly rod shouldn't be stressful and in best case scenarios, you should feel good about the entire process of the purchase no matter if it's coming from your local fly shop, person to person, or a small shop custom fly builder.
Tom Gould of the Fiberglass Flyrodders forum has put together a very in depth Guyer's Guide that is worth your time to read and consider. I've also added it to the Fiberglass Fly Rod Makers page as a future reference as well.
I'm sure there are a few war stories about there from dealing with fly rod makers (I have a couple of my own over the years...) but if I would have followed this buyer's guide, I could have likely saved myself some anxiety and regret.
Did Tom miss anything in the Buyer's Guide? Send me an email to let me know.
