Over the years, I've highlighted the fly "doodle" artwork of Jerry Tanner of The Modern Fly and didn't realize until now that the "modern" look came first.
As we all ease into the weekend, here is a mix of modern flies that Jerry has done recently including some colorful creations of his flies which I figured we'd all enjoy seeing.
For some extra credit reading, re-visit this T.F.M. post with an interview that I did with Jerry several years ago.
Jerry wrote... "An interesting fact is that the 'modern' version of The Modern Fly came before the 'doodle' version. In the process of creating the 'modern' art I would share some of the art on a Facebook group, Illustrator's Nest by Modern Thrive. During my participation they offered a challenge to the group -- do 100 drawings in 100 days. I enthusiastically took the challenge and 100 'doodles' of The Modern Fly were born! Many of them have yet to be created as 'modern' versions."
Visit The Modern Fly website to see more of Jerry's work and consider picking up The Modern Fly book which I was honored to write a bit for when it was published.
