I have a short list of things that I'd like to do when I retire and spending a week in Bozeman learning hands on how to build a bamboo fly rod at Tom Morgan Rodsmiths is certainly on it. They have just released their 2024 Bamboo Rod Building Classes schedule and classes are already filling up.
Last month, I spent a morning with Joel Doub, owner of Tom Morgan Rodsmiths, and we walked the shop, work area by work area, and seeing where the bamboo fly rods are made was pretty neat. Actually, seeing everything at TMR was neat and I'll share a stack of images soon on T.F.M. with some thoughts. I appreciate Joel taking the time to meet with me.
These are purposely small classes that are maxed at four participants. Tuition for the class covers instruction and materials needed to build your fly rod, fly rod tube and bag, lunch each day, and more. The total cost of the bamboo rod build class is $2,500.
