It was over four years ago that I wrote a post on T.F.M. about getting deeper into golf with our son playing competitive school and tournament golf, which is absolutely an endless season. He's on a golf course at least six days a week and with the weather finally cooling down, I'll try to get in a quick nine after work a couple of days a week. I do enjoy it though I'm there more for the walk than I am any sort of skill with my ball striking ability.
One of the many things that I've enjoyed about being around golf, is seeing how it can intersect with fly fishing and the outdoors. The recent introduction of Juniper & James is a high point on this with their collection of polos, shorts, belts, and hats that are made with a Southern golfer in mind.
I'll break down a care package that they sent to Finn and me in a future post. The short of it? The apparel is good. Really good.

From the Juniper & James news release...
Juniper & James, a new Southern golf apparel company, announces the launch of its inaugural collection. Founded in the Texas Hill Country, the modern, performance golf apparel brand is on a mission to provide the best hot climate gear for golfers.
Juniper & James takes inspiration from hunting and fishing gear to bring a little grit to the game of golf. Its debut collection, created to help golfers play their best in the heat and look good on and off the course, includes performance polos, golf shorts, belts, and hats that embody rugged elegance.
Garment patterns and organic colors are reflective of elements found in mother nature – a coastal golf course, the marsh, the ocean, the pattern of a Redfish tail, deep clay earth, a golden sunset – and each piece is thoughtfully designed with cutting-edge features for golfers who care about the details. The brand’s revolutionary golf apparel is purpose-built using ultra-premium, soft-hand feel fabrics that go beyond breathable – keeping skin cool and holding up to a hot summer afternoon on the links.
Juniper & James’ performance polos and golf shorts offer UPF50+ sun protection, active wicking, and rapid drying qualities. The performance polos are made with brrr° proprietary jersey fabric that’s scientifically proven to keep skin up to five degrees cooler, come in an athletic fit, are lightweight with the perfect amount of stretch (while keeping structure), and feature a unique yoke construction to give an attractive drape.
The golf shorts were created to fit well and feel comfortable with a 7” inseam and tailored fit. They’re made with premium nylon fabric that’s lightweight and offers four-way stretch, and each pair is thoughtfully equipped with a gripper wristband for ultimate comfort and to help keep a shirt tucked in, a patch loop to hold a golf glove, and a removable, built-in cloth hidden in the back right pocket for cleaning sunglasses, mud balls, or sweaty fingertips.
The brand’s collection of accessories includes belts designed in collaboration with Zilker Belts and golf hats featuring the brand’s Blue Heron and double J Hook logos. The one-of-a-kind collectible belts are constructed by hand in Buenos Aires with super premium raw Argentine saddle leather and artful nylon thread. Hats are available in various colors and styles, from performance to meshback trucker to woven rope hats.
Juniper & James is now available to shop online and soon at retail stores and pro shops across the South. The first retail partnership with Gruene Outfitters at The Station, a high-end menswear shop, showcases a capsule of the gear in the brand’s hometown. The company also offers group orders and custom embroidered apparel for everything from sharp, logoed company attire to golf tournament swag bag merch.
A golfer who can be found in a duck blind or on a skiff looking for Redfish when not on the course, Founder & CEO James Elledge launched Juniper & James after struggling to find golf shirts that could hold up to a 102 degree round without sacrificing style. Prior to launching the new golf apparel brand, he helped start a hunting and fishing apparel brand called Duck Camp. A self-described startup junkie, he has helped build lifestyle brands across the CPG and outdoor apparel spaces such as Deep Eddy Vodka, Epic Western, and King Ranch. Juniper & James is named for Elledge’s one-year-old twin babies.
“We are golf sickos who love the game and its ability to bring people closer,” says Elledge. “We strive to make goods that respect the game and help people who love golf, hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors to play better golf and have more fun doing it.”
